Handwoven Worlds by Genevieve Griffiths

Lately I’ve been pretty obsessed with the work of Genevieve Griffiths, a New Zealand based weaver with a wonderful eye for colour and composition. Genevieve has a background in architecture and this comes through in her use of playful geometric designs. They feel like an imaginary wonderland of playful landscapes you want to walk around in, jumping from “room” to room.

She describes weaving as the perfect activity for someone with a busy schedule – it’s a craft you can easily pick up and put down at a moment’s notice. Weaving also takes time, and Genevieve writes that this methodical, rhythmic creation process is incredibly soothing. Her own process allows for the piece to be designed organically, letting the composition resolve itself as she builds it. Needless to say I’m super inspired to try my hand at weaving now!
